The Welcoming Retirement

A challenging task was assigned by a couple who wished to spend their retirement amidst the serene beauty of Siolim, Goa. Their intent was not only to settle into their retirement but also to open their doors to locals, travellers , explorers, and everyone who comes to embrace the Goan landscapes and culture. They envisioned converting their retirement home into a center for interaction, communication, and cultural exchange.

The goal was to create a comfortable and welcoming environment that blends seamlessly with the local architecture. To resonate with the local touch, elements such as corbellings, coving pattis, and gargoyles were incorporated. This approach aims to make the space inviting and familiar for locals, amidst the recent trend of an excessive influx of people from around the world buying land in the city and transforming it into iconic landmarks.

The design of the homestay includes multiple spaces for rest and relaxation, allowing for community events and gatherings. This project represents our effort to create a balance of public and private transitional spaces while maintaining a harmonious mix of built, semi-built, and unbuilt areas, ensuring "openness" within the peaceful Goan context.
