The Retirement House/

The Retirement House

Project Details

This home in Siolim, Goa was envisioned for a couple who wanted to spend their retirement surrounded by calm landscapes, local culture and the slower rhythm of Goan life.

Their vision went beyond creating a private retirement home. They wanted the house to open itself to locals, travellers and explorers becoming a space for interaction, communication and cultural exchange.

The design approach focused on creating a homestay that feels warm, familiar and rooted in its surroundings. Instead of making the structure stand out as an isolated landmark, the intent was to let it blend naturally with the local architectural language.

To bring in this Goan character, details such as corbellings, coving pattis and gargoyles were thoughtfully incorporated. These elements helped the space feel connected to the region and made it more inviting for people who understand and value the local context.

The homestay was planned with multiple areas for rest, relaxation and conversation. These spaces allow guests to enjoy quiet moments, while also supporting community events, informal gatherings and shared experiences.

A key part of the planning was to create a balance between public and private zones. Transitional spaces were introduced so that movement between personal areas, shared spaces and open pockets felt natural and comfortable.

The project also explored a careful mix of built, semi-built and open areas. This helped maintain a sense of openness within the property while keeping the overall experience peaceful, breathable and connected to the Goan landscape.

Siolim Goa Homestay is imagined as more than a place to stay. It is a retirement home, a welcoming stop for travellers and a quiet cultural bridge between people, architecture and the relaxed spirit of Goa.
